    Reattaching slit glass

    I have a few MP 2852s that have had the adhesive that keeps the slit glass attached to the right scale rot away. The machines still work, but the optics on a few get coated in dust very frequently. Has anyone found a way to get it to stick again without affecting copy quality?

      I don't see anything in any of the MP 285X parts catalogs or their associated document feeders. There is how ever on in the shown in the parts catalog for the MP 4000, B223 1774 Seal: Sheet Through. Consider that most of the A3 machines use the same width platen glass, it should work.

          There are two choices that I know of ... both seem to work. The hard part seems to be keeping the white plate clean and unobstructed while applying adhesive around the edges. The tape is easier, but doesn't last as long.

          1) terrible tape (Double Sided Imagine Tear It Tape - Etsy New Zealand it's a two sided tape that you can cut into strips ~1.5mm wide. Clean off all the old adhesive. Stick strip onto the underside of the index plate ... then place i perfectly the first time.

          2) contact adhesive: clean off all the old adhesive. Use a gel pen to mark the index position onto the glass. Use a toothpick or similar wand to paint contact adhesive onto both pieces. Then place the index plate perfectly the first time.

          This was particularly common on Sharp devices. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              Whenever I want to replace that thin strip of adhesive I clean it out with turpentine (only where the old adhesive is). Then allow to dry really well. Then carefully apply a strip of double sided tape. Trim off any excess. Then stick back into position. The entire process takes about 20 minutes and you can do the optics while waiting for the turpentine to dry off completely.

              The build up you getting isn't too common. I noticed that it only occurs with certain clients. Generally the 1s in high dust areas.

                  I used to do something similar for the MP 2000 and its sister models.

                  Comparing the 3352 to the 53 it seems like Ricoh learned some from their mistake. I'll likely try each suggested fix and see what works best, depending on the environment one may work better than the other.

                      I remember also that the 35/45 models had a problem with the cleaning entrance seals coming lose at the ends. Ricoh had a replacement tape available for those, A232 2280 Tape - Entrance Seal

                      Major pain cleaning the old adhesive off the upper PCU frame.

                          Back then (~2003 I think) a modification came out - a simpe mylar with adhesive on both sides for the slit glas

                              If you try the contact cement solution, be frugal with the contact cement. If you paint it on too thick, then press the pieces together, excess contact cement can ooze over the white plate, causing white reference issues. Ask me how I know. =^..^=

                                  ... and don't use Super Glue! (It's WAY too easy to stick yourself to yourself.)
