Hi all,

Just to query, has anyone had like alot of SC899's recently? for some reason in the past 2 months we've had like 15 clients come up with this code, has windows done another big update? just wondering if you guys have also had a sudden spike with these codes. NB. Firmware does fix it 99% of the time.

Probably a client with Windows 11 and the printer is installed with a WSD-port and the Microsoft IPP Class Driver that is the cause. Install the printer with the correct driver and with an IP-port instead of WSD and deactivate WSD Device/Printer/Scanner in the WMI and update the firmware to the latest.

This sc899 coming up so often makes a good case for updating firmware proactively on every service call. Might as well do it now instead of waiting for them to call. Also, might as well update all of the firmware in the machine, not just the parts involved with this service code.

As you can tell, I'm a big advocate for firmware updates, the machines just run better and have less service calls.

I agree with Daniel - currently many Win10 installations are updating to Windows 11 because Microsoft is more agressive and showing notifications / prompts. I updated my own work PC kind of by "accident" and was surprised that I had Windows 11 the next day

Some of the updates changes the default printer to some generic IPP drivers with WSD port. Didn't happen on my machine though but we did enough remote support sessions these days.

I have seen a lot of SC899 in the past few months/years. All were corrected by installing the correct pcl 6 driver and using a TCP/IP port. I've seen the IPP driver and wsd ports cause many issues with Ricoh copiers. Firmware definitely helps but not always the cure. I've seen the IPP drivers cause no paper in the copier warnings and very slow printing. I love how customers always thinks the copiers need repaired, then you go to their computer and put the correct driver/port and bam it works. I once couldn't get a scan to folder on a pc working to save my life and found the computer needed tons of windows updates. Installed all updates and the scan folder worked. I have many copiers in the field where in WIM I turn off WSD and the computers networked to it still install ipp/wsd. I think this problem will be around for awhile and is gonna be a headache for all techs. Ricoh and Microsoft needs to get together and work this out or maybe it cant I Don't know.

The problem is Microsoft. They want everyone to do everything their way. If Windows finds a new IPP device, it installs the port as their WSD API as the port. Try in the future disabling both WSD and IPP on Ricoh equipment.

Firmware Upgrade and PCL 6 drive will fix the issue.

Unfortunately there isn't firmware released for every Ricoh device as of yet to fix the 899 code when using the IPP port.

Yes I've also had a lot more 899 codes recently than usual. And I agree everytime it is the Win 11 update causing it to default to WSD with their generic driver.

My issue, is a lot of my customers, particularly ones with the 04 series, want the AirPrint option. It was to my understanding (Hopefully I am wrong) that you have to leave IPP on in order for AirPrint to work. So if I leave that on, even when I disable WSD under IPv4, it will still show up under windows with the ability to install it incorrectly because of the AirPrint using IPP. Didn't know if anyone had any thoughts on that.
