I have a Savin 3515MF which only supports scan to e-mail. I'm setting it up in my home office and I do not have my own E-Mail server. I know there is a way to set it up using a free E-Mail service such as gmail or Yahoo because one of the network techs at my job figured out a way to do it (which he will not tell me!) Can somebody please provide basic step by step directions to make this work. Please do not get overly technical. I know how to use the web image monitor and log in as admin so that does not have to be included in the explanation. Thanks.

I can't remember what this machine supports but if it were a larger/newer machine I would..
make a gmail account
go into system settings / file transfer and set outgoing smtp to smtp.gmail.com or 74.125.93.111 if you don't have DNS setup. Change the port # to 465 or 587 while you're in there. Turn authentication on and set your username and email address to your full gmail email address.
go into system settings / address book (if this machine is new enough) and add a new entry with your new gmail address (sorry, doing this from memory) and give it a go.
All this assumes of course that your machine has an IP address, subnet mask, and a gateway entry that works for your network.
I'm sure there's an easier way to explain this, anyone else wanna give it a go? -

Have you tried setting it up through your ISP? For example, around here, the cable company ISP (brighthouse) uses an SMTP server that doesn't require authentication. So, you can just point to their SMTP server and since you are on their network, you are authenticated.
Even if your ISP requires authentication, you just put your username (email address) and password in the appropriate fields. If you don't have an email address from your ISP, most will be happy to set it up. Just call.
When you do ask them for the name of their smtp server.Comment

why not use GMX.com
They work great for our copiers. Do you know how long it takes to get someone from AT&T/Yahoo DSL on the phone to setup an email account for a customer or just to find out the customers password they've had saved for 3 years in their outlook.
GMX.com just create the customer and email address.
Of course the only drawback is if someone replies to that email address and the person never checks that email. Yes you have to use that email address as Administrator outbound/authentication. If you pick another person in the addressbook as the sender and their email address is not a GMX.com email, then it won't authenticate of course.Comment
