    lanier LD255 Blurry image

I seemed to have been blessed with this machine as mine now, and have heard the customer say that we are always out there. I started with a call for the bottom paper tray misreading the size and I took the tray apart and fixed it. While there , she metioned that the doc feed pulls more than one page. I came back with rollers and stuff, only to find the bracket broken. While telling her I had to order a part, she then shows me samples of a document that almost looked like it had been double stamped, like you made a copy, put it back in the tray and made the same copy over it and it came out offset a small amount. It was not doing it all the time, she says after it makes several copies. I would like to have some clues before I go back. I mainly work on Konicas, and have noticed some things work different on Ricoh's. Would a drum blade cause this? The UFR seems clean. Maybe a vibrating mirror?

Knackered memory, HDD or IPU board would be my guess. Try a new HDD in it first, see if that cures it. What sort of state is the hot roller in? How much web is left? Look on SP1902 to check it. Could also possibly be the drum blade and brush has had it.

The web was changed the day before, and the hot roller looks clean. This is a one off machine in my area, anything I try, I have to buy.

I'd go for memory and HDD now. Let me know how you get on.

I had that issue a few years back on that or a similar model, also didn't happen all the time. Turned out to be the laser unit. I believe it uses dual beam and somehow they got offset. Can you post a sample?
BTW, my offset was in the main scan direction (front to rear)

I went back today and ask for a sample, and they could not find one. The lady I was dealing with was not there. I made 50 copies and they were all good. One of the bosses said it was doing it all day one day, but now nothing. I will look further into it when my part comes in. The sample I saw the other day reminded me of leaving the drum carriage screws loose on an old Minolta Di620.

See if you can get the customer to do a job on it that's 2-3k long. That'll show a fault I would imagine!

Had one of these doing that about a month ago. Turned out to be the LD Sync board - not the whole laser unit. Much cheaper.

Was it every copy, or once in a while?

Very intermittent - made me think it was the HDD at first. It would run for hours or days between fits of offset lines

You jogged my memory, I previously posted I replaced the laser but in fact it was the sync board. If I remember right, it was almost like a drop shadow on the text but very pronounced.

This sounds like what I saw, offset image ,every once in a while.

This could very well be the problem. The sync board is very easy to replace, just remove the cover plate on the bottom of the scanner (beneath the platen glass). It's right there, 5 min job.

I changed the sync board on Monday and all seems to be well. Thanks to all who replied.
