SD card firmware and remote firmware are different. Files with the .rru extension are remote firmware. If you have the remote firmware you use FTP on older machines or on newer models WIM to perform the upgrade.

Okay, I've acquired the SD firmwares for the machine, and followed all the instruction I got here, using a 32MB SD card, format with Panasonic SD Formatter, and drop the firmwares into "romdata", insert into the machine and turn it on.

I've managed to update the system firmware no problem, however, when I get to Scanner and Printer firmware, the machine simply says "No valid files", as if the machine simply don't have these options added on, I opened the back cover of the machine and looked at the controller board, there were two dimms of memory on it, but besides that, there weren't any slot for the printer and scanner options. It looks like this machine should have those options installed by default at the factory.

But somehow, this machine now thinks it doesn't have those options, since there were no add-in rom, nor a slot for them, there is no way I can unplug them and plug them back in.

Once again I'm out of idea as how to fix this copier..

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks again!

Does it have the print and scan buttons on the ops panel? What does the machine do when you press them? Are the Printer and Scanner SP buttons visible in service mode?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

if you mean the hard button that says "Printer" and "Scanner", yes, they are there.

The machine was originally fully functional, I just accidentally damaged the application SD card, ever since then the printer and scanner features have gone dead.

In User Tool menu there are no scanner setting

In SP mode there's only COPY SP, the Printer SP and Scanner SP are gone.

          Thanks for the reply!

Aaaah lol that makes sense now. Have you replaced the application SD card? If memory serves, the application card is serial number locked to the individual machine. The service manual will probably tell you how to replace it.

Its strange, you are not the first person who told me that Application Card is serial locked to the machine, but when I spoke with a Ricoh technician they told me its as easy as ordering it, which is what I did. After inserting that card the "SD Authentication Failed" message went away, but my printer and scanner hasn't come back.

have you already try to test the new application sd card to other machine? If it is working, try then format HDD sounds strange but i have an experienced before having trouble on Scanner option. the machine was accidentally damage the FCU board by lightning strike and also the scanner was gone. when i do format the HDD the scanner option was came back.

If it's still not working try to test controller board, NVRam and memory DIMM one at a time.
Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.....A.E.

thanks, will give that a try. I've tried NVRAM clear on this machine twice already during this whole deal (as you can see this has been an ongoing headach for me for a few months already), haven't tried HDD format yet since Scanner and Printer option don't even show up in SP mode, I didn't think it could be hard drive related but will definitely give it a shot.

Love your signature btw, so I think I'm a pretty good example of trying everything head first and usually learn my craft through painful mistakes..... at least that's how I learned my first skill set as an IT specialist, countless sleepless nights sitting in a server room wondering why boss' blackberry refuse to see the exchange server.....lol

just checked, no printer or scanner even in factory sp mode.

                      thanks for the prompt reply

I think I'm ready to give up on this, I just have one question left in my mind, this machine has printer and scanner feature built in, they are not plug-in cards (the two dimms on the controller board looks like they are just regular memory), what can cause these two options to be "un-installed" on such machine?

Basically, when I go into SP mode to check firmware for printer and scanner, the firmware version number is ------------------. as if this option wasn't even installed.

If you think this could be simply a dead controller board, let me know, I truly appreciate every help I got from here, but I don't want to keep wasting everybody's time like this, if I had to replace something, I will just have to do it even though it could be quite expensive.

again, thanks for all the help!! appreciate it!
