    2228c bypass jamming constant

the feed rollers on the bypass are turning the opposite way round, so the pickup roller is pushing out the paper away from the bypass. sometimes it works fine but most times its turning the opposite way round.

all feed rollers are new. i have swapped the whole bypass side door from another machine. any ideas?

I'd say that's a one-way bearing, clutch or torque limiter. Tried changing them yet?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

When the reverse roller wins, change the oneway.

just a shot in the dark: the feed rollers looks equal to the rollers in the cassette units, but in fact they have the oneway bearing in the opposite direction; are you sure that they are replaced by the right ones?

Actually Herrmann, your suggestion would be a more likely scenario than a drive 1 way.

It's part of the vertical transport assy. I would replace the feed roll first, if the one way in that is intermittently slipping it would give you the symptoms you're experiencing. If the bearings in it slip during feed, instead of locking on the shaft and feeding paper the sep roller will drive it backwards. Part #AF031046. If you decide to replace the whole bypass feed assy, the part # is G0802851.
I was mistaken in my earlier post, the bypass is driven by the paper feed motor through a clutch. If the clutch failed, then the paper wouldn't try and drive backwards.
