Was the feed unit you replaced a brand new one or one from another machine? There's an RTB (27 I think) to do with the sensors in the feed stations not being soldered correctly. Might be worth a look.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

Bulletin 27 has nothing to do with Jam code 17027

You're looking at the wrong machine. That's the Athena, not the Apollon. RTB27 for the Apollon has to do with the sensors. I know the RTB calls it a multi-feed, but this is the symptom I had and this is what cured it.

            SYMPTOM
            A multi-feed occurs.
Note: In factory tests, the occurrence rate with the LCT is 0.08% (1/1239).
            Jam Position:
            [Tray 1] [Tray 2]
            CAUSE
Vendor production error: The sensor’s detection circuit was not soldered correctly to the
            inside of the sensor.
            SOLUTION
            Production line
The vendor changed the soldering method to ensure the connection is strong enough.
Applied from: Nov, 2006 production (RAI)
            Action in the field
Replace the paper feed sensor (P/N AW010128) with one that is not from lots
            FF08 – FK26. (06.06.08-06.09.26)
Note: The stock of SPC has already changed to the modified sensor. The lot number is
printed on the rear side of the sensor (see the photo on the next page).

Oh you mean bulletin #2 for product code B801 maybe that will correct it but bbpast mentioned intermittent paper jams only when printing in color, I don't know. Hey where is bbpast he has not said a word.

Still fighting it. updated all firmware. regarding the feed unit, i swapped the unit from the third tray...continues to jam from tray 1 and works fine from tray 3, even swapped them back no change.

The tray 3 senor might have the same fault though.

Check the mylar on the back of the paper guide at the registration roller. I've had those when they start to wear, they cause a burr which int. catches the paper before they finally get bad enough to catch it most times. I've had a few of these do that and it catches from tray 1 first because of the sharp bend it makes to get there from tray 1.
