    [Misc] Ricoh 3228c paper curl

    Hi guys,

I have loads of these in the field (jupiter c2) and what i am experiencing is that a lot of these machines suffer from excessive paper curl, even with a fuser rebuild the problem still persists, often causing jamming (especially on duplex)

Is there any way to minimize this i.e. lowering fuser temp?

If you have had this and have any suggestions i would greatly apppreciate it.

    Cheers.

The only thing you can try is putting in fresh dry paper, I used to use silica gel packs in the trays of these machines to try and stop the paper from getting damp paper which is a primary cause of excessive paper curl.

I can't recall that this fuser tends to curl the paper above the usual level. I'd go for some test runs with fresh paper and probably some other sorts of brands as well. Depending on the manufacturing process a paper can show a different behaviour if you put it in LEF or SEF so you can test this as well.

If the machine is running in a high moisture enviroment, it may be usefull to add a tray heater (if available).

Check the orientation of the paper, when paper in cut in the factory it comes off five big rolls so naturally has a bit of a curl already, this is exaggerated by the fuser if the paper is put in the wrong way round. Turn the paper over in the tray, sometimes this helps.

Ditto, and if a particular batch of paper came off the master roll close to the core it will have more curl tendency than if it was cut near the outside diameter. The next shipment from that company may be fine. Like everyone says, flip it and you should be ok.

Probaly the paper stock but here are some duplex / curl related checks for this model...

Check the fuser has the four white exit tabs attached and that they are straight.

Be sure to clean the three different sets of brown duplex junction mylars.
Replace any deformed or chipped mylars (G3484682 / MB17).

Clean the duplex inverter sensor (so many techs miss it).
Take tray one and two out and stick head in and look up, you should see a small access hole in the metal guide plate under reg roller.
