Aficio 220 when using adf get line near trailing edge when using adf

Trailing edge of copy has line up and down page that furthest from edge at bottom of page where it is 3/16" from edge. At center of page it is 2/16 "(or 1/8")from edge and so on going closer to edge as you get higher on page. It fades out at 6 3/4" up page so 4 1/4" from top of page down do not show line.
Original documents appear to feed in straight and I cleaned all rollers in adf. When using platen glass copies have no line. I drew arrows to trailing edge and when copies are made from adf the arrows are against the line. Any info is appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Bent scanner frame would be my guess.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

          Hi Frank

Just out of curiosity, have you adjusted the settings in sp mode 1 and sp mode 4. I've had similar problems like this and adjusted the drum erase margins to + or - values etc in sp mode 1,3 & 4 respectivly,

In recent models like the MP5500 similar lines like this can be fixed by entering copy doc settings after pressing the counter button and going into edit

I didn't do that because ir only occurs when using adf and copies are fine when using glass. Frank

This is the correct answer. Whenever you get a skew through the adf but the platen looks fine, someone has leaned on the scanner. Lift up the left front corner and scan, you will see it corrected. You may have to shim the scanner support bracket if it's too far out of whack. Adjusting the erase margins may get rid of the line but you will still have the skew. Correct the skew and you correct the line.

Thanks TeeBee. When you say lift the left front corner of scan are you talking about the front of the adf or the scan glass guide or am I missing something here . Go slow while I put my dunce cap down so that I can concentrate better and will be sure to understand you.Frank

Lift up under the entire scanner assembly on the left front (unsupported) side. This is a common issue with this design on the earlier "open center" models. The later generations are much stronger and don't really have this problem. You may want to take off the cover over the scanner support bracket to shim between the support and the bottom of the scanner body.
If there is no finisher/bridge unit attached, you can add the scanner holder support. Attached is the tech bulletin for it....
