Don't know what "appears to shut down" means but 690 is a defective BICU.

I have the same exact problem at the moment.
I have a 2045e that shuts down. When the main power is turned on the power led comes on for a fraction of a second then goes out.
I've also had it come up with the SC 690 code as well.
I've replaced the BCIU board, checked my connections. Now when I turn on the machine the main power led comes on, but my panel and lcd are dead.
I've already replaced all the interlocks, 6 in total, as the machine was very dirty.
Has anyone seen this before? I'm starting to run out of ideas, also checked all fuses on the PSU and they all test good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the SC history and see what other codes have been generated since the problem began but weren't displayed

I can't do that at the present time since I can not get the machine up to go into SP.

As a test, replace the power supply unit

Can you get it to boot up with the front door open? If so, then you could pull up the SC history.

                        What a piece of crap.
I replaced the PSU unit, BCIU, IOB and controller box.
Same damn thing, turn on the main power, and the power LED flashes for a second and goes off.
All components replaced were checked and tested in a good working machine.
I had it unplugged for a few minutes and decided to try it again, it started up and started to load.
Looked like ti was ready to run and then just shutdown again.
I had this before all this, the machine would sometimes power up and boot you could even do a copy, but then it should just shutdown for no reason.
I will check the flat ribbon cable on another visit, I'm getting so sick and tired of this machine.
