    SD Cards for Flashing Firmware

    I know that there has been a lot of controversy on the size of card to use, so here is a little tidbit I discovered today (painfully, at that ).

    We had to flash a bunch of fairly new machines at a large law firm so that Accuroute would perform properly (along with updating the Java cards).

    I foolishly mistook my 2GB SD card for my 1GB card, and loaded up all the new firmware on it.

    The 2GB works just fine for the MP5001, but fails miserably with the MP C4000. I got all kinds of errors (E36 and the like) when using the 2GB card.

    I guess it's time to look for a few spare 1 GB cards on line, just in case.

      I use a 1GB Kingston card formatted with the recommended Panasonic utility. Has always worked well. I've steered clear of anything larger due to the potential issues of firmware updates failing.

              Its not so much the size of the card as the speed. The machine needs to read the entire card within a certain time period. If the card is too big or too slow, it will fail. I use nothing but 2G (currently RIDATA Lightening series) and they work OK. So the cheaper the card the smaller it must be.

                  Have you tried formatting the card using an SD formatter utility or just using the pc to format. I'm curious to see if that makes a difference on larger cards because I know formatting using the desktop/laptop will wipe out certain sectors that a dedicated SD formatter won't.

                      I dont think I've ever used anything but the Panasonic formatter.

                          Oooh... do you think the machine knows it's a Panachronic formatter and thinks... "hmm... the competition. I don't like these. Almost as much as I don't like feeding Xeroid paper".

                          Anyway, back on topic. I stick to 1GB too, less glitchy.
                          It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                          Hit it.

                              You can always format the card to 1GB. Its hard for us in sweden to find 1GB SD card so we bought 4GB cards and formated them. Works like a charm

                                  I use 1Gb also, and have a spare 64Mb just in case for older machines (saved my ass once).
