Booklet pagination on a MCP 3500.

I got a customer asking if he can copy a brochure by using "Booklet pagination". What this means is he wants to put the brochure on the scanner, scan, next page, scan, next page, scan. So he scans 2 pages at a time. When printing he wants it to follow a specific order.

He doesn't want to add 1 and 1 page from the brochure, he wants to scan 2 pages at a time, and let software of some kind do the "math" so the scanned pictures comes correctly out on the printed paper.

    Is this possible?

EDIT: Not sure I'm getting this straight in my head either. Hehe. Paper 1 has page 1 and 20. Paper 2 has page 2, 3, 18 and 19. Paper 3 has page 4, 5, 16 and 17. Paper 4 has page 6, 7, 14 and 15. And so on.

They're printed on both sides of the paper. Anyone understand anything at all with this? ) Confuses the hell out of me.

Hmmmm... Sounds like he may want magazine mode under duplex settings. In this case, two sided original to magazine would be the setting. Is the original a booklet or magazine already? If so, just copying onto DLT/A3 duplexed will do the same thing. Kind of hard to explain this without being able to show it done.

Yeah, the original is a brochure. Each printed page is half of A4. The A4 paper is folded once so it holds 4 printed pages (duplex). Does it make sense?

The problem comes when he's trying to scan&print anything but the middle of the brochure.

      Pretty hard to explain.

        Alright, try this:

        1. Set up one of the trays as A4 SEF to mimic the layout of the brochure.
        2. Choose single sided original to magazine as the copy mode.
        3. Manually select the A4 SEF tray as your output tray.
        4. Choose any other finishing options
        5. Have the user scan each page in their logical order (page one, page two, page three, &c) off the platen glass.
        6. Press # after scanning the last page to start printing the magazine.

By scanning the pages in their logical order, the copier will output them in the correct position for a magazine layout.

You may want in future to have the customer create the full sized pages they want individually as opposed to copying from a brochure, as the machine can create the desired effect once configured correctly. Also, once you've confirmed that the whole process works, create a program with all of the proper settings for the user so that there's no confusion down the road as to what needs to be set.

Let us all know how it works!

          Hi! Thanks for your time&effort

The customer doesn't want to scan 1 and 1 page. He wants to scan 2 pages at time. He puts the brochure on the scanner, page 1&2 scans, then flips the pages, scans page 3&4, 5&6, 7&8 and 9&10.

Now comes the tricky part. Is it possible for the machine/software to make it so page front&back&1&10 gets on paper #1, 2&3&8&9 on paper #2, 4&5&6&7 on paper #3.

He stated he didn't want to scan 1 and 1 page from the brochure/book. He was sure there was a way to scan 2 pages at once and make the software do the rest.

I will try your procedure tomorrow when I get to work. I think we have a MCP 3500 at the office.
