ARDF problem - replaced and now doesn't work (3010)

    Hello,

We just replaced our ARDF in our Savin C3528 machine with the 3010 unit from another machine that was in storage. We got it all hooked up fine, but when we try to use the ARDF it pulls the paper about halfway then stops. If you take it out and reset it will go all the way through, the copy comes out and then the machine says jammed, even though it is not! And that is on the long edge. If you put it on the short edge, it stops halfway and nothing works. When it stops halfway there are no errors. So I think it may be calibrated wrong for the new ARDF or paper size or something, but I am not sure how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated, as I am not well versed in copy repair.

    Thank you!!

Weird, but you might check the DF size sensors, maybe one of the length sensors is full of dust. Less likely is the width sensor which is some sliding contacts attached to the bottom of the front guide, clean them up and apply some conductive grease. You can test those sensors in service mode SP-6 just to be sure.
    Good luck!

I checked all the sensors, they seem fine and appear to be reading the paper size when I am in service mode. And once the paper is reset for the 2nd time, it goes through fine and makes a copy. So it is more like the ADF and copier are not talking to each other correctly...

open the front cover of the adf, confirmed that the adf transport roller (B541-3351), big white gear is turning or not, it always happen that the centre shaft is turning but not the gear due to wear off.

Yes, mechanically it is working fine. It just seems not to understand the size of the paper. The second time we re-feed it goes through (despite the error message). It just acts like the paper is not 8.5x11 and stops in the middle with no error on the first run through.

Oh, and it works perfectly on the copier we pulled it from. So it is not a mechanical/roller/motor issue.

Legal size paper feeds fine, but after the last sheet it gives a (J001) error code and days it is jammed though nothing is there.

Letter size paper feeds the first sheet 1/2 though, then stops, no error, if you hit start again it starts again, finished the stack then does the same error code (J001) with nothing in it.

            Confusing.

The problem is, you are using an ARDF that is not made to be used on that machine. Parts of machines can't be swapped out like light bulbs.

The 3010 ARDF is made for Black and White copiers, is an option on those machines, and has a product code of B802. The C3528 comes standard with an ARDF (DF82) and has a product code of B714. They are NOT interchangeable, even if they look the same...

Well now that is odd. Since it was on the exact same model and type of machine before, I am not sure that you are correct. It was on a color machine originally, so ... any other thoughts?

I have no idea why it was working on the other machine then, according to the product support guide, the C3528 came with the DF82 ARDF, not the 3010. I don't see how it would work. Is C3528 the correct model, maybe you mistyped it?

                    Can't be "exactly" same machine.
The ARDF 3010 Feeder goes with Savin C3535 (or Ricoh Aficio C3500) - might look similar but isn't the same. It does also go with Savin 9040 (Ricoh Aficio MP4000)

Just look at the point to points, totally different. The DF3010/B802 (Savin C3535/Ricoh MPC3500) has 19 sensors (5width and 3 length) and the B714 (Savin 3528) has 16 (4width and 2 length). I ran the numbers through my ENIAC computer and the lo and behold, they don't match up. I'm surprised it even attempts to do anything, even more surprised something didn't smoke.
