Ricoh Aficio 201SPF - DF Multi feeding! Any ideas?

I have a customer who sends quite large documents via the document feeder (sometimes up to 38 pages long!).

Intermittantly the machine will multifeed, even though the documents are not poor condition (i.e. dog ears, staple holes, etc).

I know on previous models there was a mod with the bottom plate and a spring, but I was uder the impression that these machines already have this mod?

Any ideas on what could cause the multifeeding, as only if the multifeed goes very wrong does it end in a jam (which the machine will log) but multifeeding is not logged!

I find a fine file used on the edges of the sep pad lift spring to make them perfectly smooth ant the n a little light grease on the contact area of that spring usually solves multifeeding. I believe a little roughness / burrs on the spring prevent it from moving smoothly and can allow the multifeed to occur.

Grease is the way to go - works since the first multi-feed issues occured with the MP161 and it's a reliable solution.

            Chaps

the 161 has a spring metal plate at the bottom of the reverse roller housing - is this where you apply the grease?

The grease is applied to where the spring plate touches the metal base plate underneath the separation assembly. I usually make sure there are no burrs or rough edges on the spring at this point, apply a liberal amount of grease and reassemble. This generally gives an immediate and complete cure. If not, then you may need to replace the roller and wrap 'spring', but I have only had to go that far once or twice.

just add a bit grease to the pressure spring plate contact area and you'll be fine. I use the same grease that's usually used for hot roller bearings - it has a quite thick consistence

When you take hold of the holder that the reverse roller clips into, and you lift it, you will see a "v" shaped spring plate below the reverse roller holder. Apply the grease where this plate "rubs" on the lower frame (below the holder). This is sure to solve the problem! We started doing this on all our machines and the number of multifeeding calls have dropped!

I had this same problem and read this thread and tried the tips.

I filed the edges of the V shaped spring, pinched it close to reduce pressure and put some thick grease on the base plate where the spring contacts. I did one other thing, not sure if it helped or not, but I removed the front cover from the RADF and cleaned the pin clutch that supplies drive to the Double Feed Prevention roller. I had one machine that took three trips to resolve, after doing this I put it in ADF continuous feed mode and ran over 500 sheets through without a single double feed or jam.

                            Good luck!
