[Misc] Ricoh 3228c Fuser Belt Moving

    hi

Please can someone advise, your help will be really appreciated. We normally replace The fuser belt on 3228c but on some fuser units fuser belt needs replacing after a few thousand copies because the fuser belt has moved to one side and is damaged. There is no adjustment on fuser pressure as far as I know, as only springs on the front provide the pressure and they are normally fine.

Does the belt surface looks wrinkled when this happens? In this case the belt thermistor is probably faulty (you can actually see this if you inspect the thermistor - a little metal plate with the actual thermistor element glued on it -> glue becomes weaker and the element has no contact with the plate). If this is not an issue: Do you replace just the belt or do you pm the fuser with a kit? It's possible that the other rollers (especially the foam one) gets weaker and won't align the belt properly during operation. Last but not least: I've seen other techs damaging the rubber rings at the inside-edge of the belt resultung to similar issues.

You can exchange the whole fusing unit against a unit for the CL7300, just interchange the connector with the red wires at the underside of the unit. Save time and money and you are sure, that all relevant parts are new

We had this problem a while ago - some numpty had put an oil roller in instead of a tension roller!

        It was not me.

Thank you for your help. We only replace the belt, yes sometimes there are wrinkles, this has not happened on 1 fuser unit many fusers come back with belt moved to one side. But the thermistor and the metal plate is screwed on to the fuser unit so it must be making contact. Also how would the thermistor cause the belt to wrinkle.

Rubber rings inside the belt are ok. maybe need to look more closely at the foam rollers. The other roller is the metal roller which I can't see causing a problem. Are there any adjustments.

To be fair you should compare the price of the printer fuser unit with the official maintenance kit for the fuser + work time. Of course one can fix everything with just a minimum of costs but that goes usually along with ongoing trouble reliability-wise. IIRC the fuser kit is almost as expensive as a complete fuser for the printer. But a complete fuser includes more parts that aren't part of the kit (some should be) so below the line it's actually cheaper.

Silly question this I know but why not fit the fuser pm parts as Ricoh state in their service guides instead of just one component and then see if the issue is still present?

Yes, changing the belt hardly passes for servicing the fuser. Have a go at doing it right, by which I mean the hot roller, heating roller, oil roller, cleaning roller, press roller, thermistors and tension roller, then start to worry.
