Ricoh AF5560C - Black coating on all drums

I have a AF5560 that is doing this lately. It overtones to the point that toner is being blown out the exhaust fans.

When we removed the drum units they all had a black coating across 3/4 of the drum width. It feels like it is embedded on the drum surface, as there is no touchable ridge where it end and the normal green starts.

I imagine the overtoning being caused by incorrect ID sensor values because of the black surface at the time of process control.

My question is this - can a worn lubrication bar cause this? Has anyone come across this and can I try polish it off?

      Hi Polo-022

Does that cause the toner to almost make a film on the pcu's? Close-up it looks like the drum almost should be black, if you know what I mean.

I had a look on Ricoh's TESSA site, and the nearest thing I could find was the change in lubrication bar.

Could you please point me in the right direction?

Yes that is a sign of worn lube bars, I clean it off with belt cleaner, but it does take a bit of work.

It's just called belt cleaner, it was originally made to clean the old style rubber Doc Feed belts, it is also good for cleaning plastic covers.

You need to replace the drums, blades and brush rollers. The black coating is from the brush roller when the lube bar depleted. With no wax to coat it, the fibers of the brush will "burn" into the drum. Don't mess around cleaning the surface of the drum, you're just removing a layer of the coating and changing the properties of the surface in regards to insulation and conduction. What is the current count on the drums now?
