    Network dead on MPC 3501

    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with a MPC 3501 where the network "card" part in not working properly. There is only light in one LED (yellow) on the network connector/port/receptacle (what's the right word to use?), and it can not obtain an IP adresse from the switch when it's in DHCP mode. Every thing else seems to work fine. Can get all reports and what not from the machine, including network data sheets/reports.
I have tried new firmware, formattet the HDD, changed the printer controller board and the BICU with no luck.
I've browsed through the service manual and can not find out what the flashing LEDs on the BICU board mean. I've got two green and one red. There is also a LED flashing red on the IOB.
It's only printed 7000 pages or so.

    Any tips?

Are you sure the NIC card is set to "ON" with SP5985?
Is the network cable or wall jack tested, and in working order? Have your tried another port on the router and/or connecting directly to a laptop?

      Hi,

I didn't even remember the SP5985, but it was set to on. I have testet cables, different ports on the router and connected it to my laptop with no luck.. maybe I'm going to check internal electrical connections/harnesses next. But thanks anyway. I've taken the machine to out shop now to test more.

use a peer to peer connection, this will help you simplify troubleshooting. use static ip on the machine then ping it. use the ping option on the machine.

I like the acronym, KISS. You know Keep It Simple Stupid. i would try all that has been suggested first and make sure its the copier before anything else and with what has been posted, you should be able to rule out the copier or network. I have been to some customers where they have to "release" that particular IP address so that it may be used. i only found this out after going through a bunch of crap and the customer is like, "Oh yeah, i have to release that IP before it can be used..." pain in the butt...
But I cleaned the scan glass.......
