    Re: Manual desired......

It takes me 5 minutes to buy a manual online for the right price and for much less than a printed version.
I save the digital manual on 3 different storage areas.
I can always get it wherever I am and never lose it.

If I request a manual for free, I wait and wait and take crap from users and wait and take more crap and I might get a partial manual from someone with a virus or malware and hope it solves my problem.

I will spend the few bucks to have the information in 5 minutes and fix the problem the next day.

    Your choice.

    As Always...................................
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

      Exactly! Agree 100%.
This is all I was trying to say too. A few dollar investment for a resource that more than pays for itself on it's first use, that you'll use countless times over several years, and people will cry, beg, whine, and lose clients over a few dollar investment! It's Unbelievable to me.
Rep points for having my back!

        Re: Manual desired......

Good analogy but to be fair we need to take it one step further. When you buy your other tools that you use from the store, tools that are probably patented, the store bought them legally from the manufacturer and has permission to sell them to you. Now as you paid for it you can do with the tools whatever you want and even resell it...but you can't make knock-offs or copies of the original and sell them if the design or concept is too close to the original.

That being said, I also believe that if you buy an expensive piece of hardware be it a copier or a car; the manufacturer should have to give you an operator, parts, and service manual with it. This doesn't mean a machine with a service contract should fall under this rule.

I think we over-dramatize the scenario of a customer doing something overly dangerous and damaging if they had a service manual. Sure damage can be done, but the manufacturer has limits put in to what you can do. There's a range, it's not like you can up the charge in the machine to a million gigawatts and blow the machine, you, your family, and the whole house up...you might blow something.

I do like that Paul has a collection of manuals though...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that I can get them for $12.77. Actually I would like to see his collection grow.\

I generally believe in following the law, but in this case I say fuck the manufacturers. If they quit making their shit so damn cheap anymore we wouldn't need their manuals so often.

And to be fair a lot of manual requests seem to come from outside the USA. I don't think some of those countries are developed and networked as much as ours. I read an article about a commercial printer in India I think, and that little print shop was the only one for hundreds of miles...now add to that the fact that there's no supplier or manufacturer support out there and you'll see that there's little option to fixing and maintaining things...but people still have a need. Plus they probably don't have credit cards or a big network of banks.

I personally consider manuals as tools required for the job, and in no way expect them to be given to me. Nor do I expect others to "borrow" my tools that I paid for.

You just happened to step right into that one. =^..^=

Well what can I say...... Cor Blimey springs to mind! The earlier line of "beating a dead horse" made me smile, as in England we would tend to say "Flogging a dead horse".
What amuses me slightly is that anyone selling manuals (not that I personally have anything against anyone doing it and making a a few bucks, and providing an invaluable resource at the same time) is probably doing so illegally anyway.
