To scan to folder you're going to need a very outdated, hard to find, and quirky software called "scanrouter V2 lite". Otherwise, it's via the network twain driver.
Best bet is to setup scan to email. Whatever you choose, all but the network twain setup will require some networking 'know-how". It's not a 'plug and play' type of config.
search the site there's tons of threads about this stuff.
TIP: You'll have far more hits using the Ricoh brand model number, which is Aficio 2018

Set up the scan to email and copy the emailed file to a folder.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

            - Scanrouter WILL work with UAC disabled on Win7.

            - To use Twain -download and install, and then use a program like Photoshop (for example) to "import" from scanner. There is only a 32 bit driver for this to (but I've seen it work on 64 bit systems)

            - As we've said previously - scan to email is your best option here -log into the web monitor via the IP address and input your email settings

I've heard that Scanrouter will work on Windows 7 with UAC turned off, but I've never tried it myself.

Scan-to-email is the way forward really, otherwise install the TWAIN driver (remember to configure it in All Programs afterwards.) You'll also need some sort of front-end to import the scan to using the TWAIN driver - this can be done using Word via cutom clip art (very, very faffy and utterly shite) or by installing Desktop Binder Lite (free download from the Ricoh website.)

You could also look at buying a more up-to-date machine, however as an end-user I'm sure that you will be hugely unresponsive to this notion.
