[CQ] Ricoh SP C820DN Color Registration Problem

    Hello,
Machine's color registration is off, if you run color registration from user tools it will help for 1 or 2 prints, but soon goes off. It happens to all 3 colors (C,M,Y) and the amount its off by varies. Also its always in the subscan or direction of feed.

I ran forced line position adjustment with SP2-111-001 , mode C then mode A, and machine shows results in SP2-194-007 as 0=completed successfully. Also SP2-194-010 , -011, -012 for the colors show results of 1=Complete with no problems.

Usually after running the forced line position adjustment the colors will be aligned perfectly, but after 1 or 2 prints it starts to get worse. I've tried some countermeasures from the manual but doesn't seem to help.

No density problems, cleaned ID sensor, ID sensor shutter motor works, inspected transfer unit, machine only has 100k prints.

I'm leaning towards replacing the Transfer Belt Unit or ID Sensor. But because the line position adjustments run with no errors I am not sure which to try first. Any other ideas or tests I can run?

    Thanks,

Re: Ricoh SP C820DN Color Registration Problem

This machine looks like the engine or printer version of the MPC2500-4500, I usually don't ever have problems with transfer belts or id sensors. I just don't want to order a $300 dollar unit and not have it fix the problem.

Very strange considering the machine only has 93k color 15k black.

FYI. I didn't see any TSB's or firmware updates that would be related.

    Anybody?

Seems to me that either the transfer unit or one of the pcu's is dragging. You can slip a transfer unit in from another machine to see if that stops it, but wouldn't recommend it for the pcu's. What is the life of the parts in the logging data?

I think this machine is more like an mpc 4000-5000
          Drum life= 120K.
Iam ITB would be ok with that low print...
          Try this:
Clean the register sensors again (use air?)
Sp 3015-001 2x (force toner supplie).
(Turn the reg. on again. (You say it was off) run, sp 2111-003 2x and -001 1x.

If this not work check the itb / repair..
(By the way if you want to save money you can use the mpc 2500 itb, if you use the cl-unit too).

Just because the firmware read me doesn't reference it doesn't mean you shouldn't keep it current.. yes your issue is probably hardware related (ITB,music sensors, drums ect) but keep firmware current.

Is the registration/aligning roller in good shape? If not, it can cause some goofy color registration problems.
