    SC-495, Savin 8055 (Aficio MP 5500) (B246)

I have a Savin 8055 that keeps having a reoccurring SC-495 error. The problem is due to a dirty pulse disc sensor. The sensor that monitors movement of the waste toner coil becomes dirty due to the pulse disc itself. I have taken this apart a number of times. If you clean the sensor the machine works fine again. I can see friction marks on the sensor housing. It looks like over time the pulse disc itself rubs on the sensor housing from time to time and that creates "plastic dust" that accumulates on the sensor.

I have installed thin washers in an attempt to keep the disc from coming in contact with the sensor but after a few months of use the problem always returns.

I'm thinking I might need to replace the whole coil assembly to remedy this problem.

My question is, has anyone found a permanent fix for this problem?

It's been my experience that the recycling tubes get clogged enough to stop continuous rotation of the disk causing the code. Pull the tubes out and clean the packed toner out of them.

I second that....if your lucky its just a dirty sensor......more times than not toner gets stuck in there like cement...I could see the coil getting in such a bind that it causes issues with the rotational flag. Pull the tubes and clean thoroughly.

In my case, its not due to a clog. The waste toner assembly, hose and coil are is good shape. There is no clog and parts are moving freely. The SC495 is only due to the dust created from the pulse disc rubbing on the pulse sensor housing. This is not the only machine I've seen this on either. I've seen a number of Savin 8055-8075 machines do this. I've not seen this same problem on any of the earlier models (savin 2575 , savin 4075). I do have a very old savin 2055 that does indeed clog up from time to time but that is a different setup from the 8055.

Its not a huge problem as it takes 2-3 months of daily use for the problem to return.

I was just hoping that someone out there ran into this exact problem and found a fix for it

Not a great photo but here is the sensor covered in "plastic friction dust".

Hmm I haven't seen that type of dust on the machines we service...normally just regular brown dust...not plastic residue. Makes me think some sort of bushing is worn out letting that flag travel to the sensor and rub. I wonder if trying a sensor with a wider gap would help. I attached the service bulletin on the recycle assembly...Toner Collection Assembly.pdf
