As well as firmware you have checked the connections between the controller and the keyboard/op pannel? It has been known for the cable between scanner unit and controller to get dammaged or twist.

Sometimes better to check the simple fixs before swapping the whole board over.

As IMIND says, there is new firmware to correct this, try that before replaceing the controller.

Mr. nickname said, unplug the hard disk, this means desconnect the drive. there is a new firmware for that SC. turning off and back on this service call is normally cancelled.

try unplugging the harddrive and reboot. If it still comes up with a 672 then your controller is probably f*cked.
