Charis Pro C5100 and ProC 5110 toner use and waste toner yield

    Hello Folks.
I have a customer who has a Charis and they are getting what seems like a very low amount of prints from their toner bottles and also complaining that the waste toner is filling up after around 6,000 prints.

They are doing newsletter style printing, mainly text with a couple of images, I'd guess less than 50% coverage average. Their work flow means they do very small runs (eg 5 pages at a time) I think this may be the reason for the high toner consumption as I think these machines perform some toner refresh activity after job end (please correct me if I'm wrong)

I'd like to hear if anyone else has heard of this from their customers, mine is rightfully disapointed at having to change toner every day and waste toner just as often.

They seem to be very reliable and we have a number of them working quite nicely, however the waste bottles fill within 14k, you need to leave the customer with a number of spare waste bottles and plenty of toner.

I've heard of them filling up in under 6,000 sheets. Apparently if you do less pages per job the bottles fill much quicker than if you do more pages/job

The stated capacity of a toner bottle I believe is based on 7% coverage.

To reduce toner usage and waste toner, you need to lower toner concentration in the development units and attract more toner to the transfer belt. See the attached. It was given to me by my regional rep when he came down to assist in setting up two MP C6501's.

Thanks slimslob, emo. This is a good start.

Every Ricoh I've ever worked on has overtoned. Long time Ricoh users get kinda used to the piles of toner on the paper, and cannot understand the concept of half-tones or white background. "You mean it's not supposed to be like braille?"

If the machine sits idle for long period of times the machine dumps any developer in the units and replenishes the unit with fresh toner/developer. The toner bottle contains 30% developer to help with this process. So the longer the machine sits the more toner you waste??? Idiotic design. We have been researching ways to either turn this feature off (toner refresh mode) or at least expand the time between refreshes. You are basically losing money if you have these machines in a low volume environment. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
