MPC2800 - bypass copies only the middle of the page

    Hey guys.

Got an MPC2800 whose bypass tray no longer likes 8.5x11". When copying in any orientation only the center of the original image is copied (maybe 5 inches of it). Looks like it's stuck thinking there's a smaller size paper loaded. Has anyone had to replace the sensors in this tray? It has one standard photointerruptor for a length sensor, then some kind of sensor/harness coming off the gear that's driven by the side fences. None of this stuff I can find in the parts catalog.

Most likely the paper width switch on the bypass tray. You might also be getting a paper jam indication when feeding SEF. Its thinks you are feeding 5.5x8.5 paper. Press the "#" key and select the proper size. If it copies properly, try cleaning or replacing the width switch.

Ricoh uses the term manual feed in the parts catalog. Having not taken one apart, I am not sure the type of width detection it uses.

Why not just set it to the specific paper size or do they change paper types often?

Even if I manually set the paper size in user tools it does this. The only way right now to get it to copy properly is to hit # after inserting paper and select the size on that screen. This is unacceptable to the customer because they never had to do that before.

Does this only happen when printing from a computer work station maybe could be a driver issue or paper size issue from document properties the print driver always overrules the machine settings when set to manual feed bypass.
I would take all the paper out of the bypass tray send a document that is causing the issue and read the display on the copier after the job is ripped to the copier and see what paper size and type is displayed to load in the bypass. Set the paper in the way it is asking for or change the page properties to match what they want to load in the bypass.

Try giving them a new version of the print driver and see if the problem is corrected.

Also if the width sensor track is loaded up with grease and dust it might be giving it a bad reading causing the issue. It will take some pulling bypass apart.

          Hope this was helpful.

Happens with copies - ADF or glass.

I have the width sensor and harness on order; will update with results.
