How to insert a 2 sided scan in the middle of a single sided batch run? On a MP 6000

    Customer runs batch scans constantly.
She always has 1 or 2 pieces that are 2 sided that have to be inserted in the middle of the run of otherwise single sided sheets.
And yes you could run the whole batch as 2 sided but the file size jumps even with the blank pages. And the customer would like to avoid this, as well as find a simple work around.

She also has a Canon that has somehow made the whole job simpler with a 1 button to push simple 2 sided insert.

Am I failing to see how to do this on this machine or does the Ricoh just not have the capability of doing 2 sided inserts in the middle of a scanned batch run?

    Thanks
    Jeff

Not in front a machine right now, but when original type is selected and 2 sided is selected isn't there an option to 'ignore blank pages'? It may be on a different model or function though, not sure.

I don't know if this Ricoh has a Job Build function like the Kyoceras, but that is where I'd start. Essentially, when the documents in the document feeder are scanned the machine prompts "Are there more? Yes/No" Then you can add more originals to the document feeder, or lay originals on the glass (the two sided ones, one side at a time). You can do this as many times as you like. When you're done select "Are there more? Yes/No". All the scans are grouped into one file. You're only limitations are the usual file size and memory limitations. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Ricohs have Batch under Special Original, that let you build a complex job. Whether or not this can have mixed single and double sided originals I have not tested.

I do not have an MP 6000 here to look at. On the MP C4501 that I do have, in "Scanner - Original Feed Type - Batch" there is a selection for mix 1 sided and 2 sided.

I wondering if the MP 6000 is one generation too early for the mix 1 sided and 2 sided.

This is in fact a huge issue that has been around for a long time with Ricoh machines. An option for mixed 1 and 2 sided documents has recently been added to the new 3 series machines.

Unfortunately, I was put in a similar position recently where a customer wanted to scan mixed 1 and 2 sided documents. Ricoh native scanning does NOT have the ability to do this properly. There are only 2 ways to get it to work. First is you can install a 3rd party app (I used ESA Transformer v3) on the machine as an 'Other function' and have them use that instead of the native option. The second is installing a PC based program to monitor the folder where the scans go to, scan the documents 2 sided and the program uses black page removal to manipulate and recreate the output file.

Xerox and Cannon machines have supported this for a long time so be warned you may have a cranky customer if they used this option and move to a Ricoh

The ignore blank pages, function on Ricoh's, are just to check if the first page is blank, then the user probably placed the originals face down, and the machine ask him to check this!

                  1. Insert the single sided originals that are at the start of the scan.
                  2. Press original feed type
                  3. On the right side of the screen press "BATCH"
                  4. On the left side of the screen press "MIX 1&2" and either "1 SIDED" or "2 SIDED" based on what is current in the feeder.
                  5. Each time they need to change from 1 sided to 2 sided or 2 sided to 1 sided they have to go back to Original Feed Type and change only the "1 SIDED" "2 SIDED" as necessary
                  6. After the last original jhas been scan press the "#" key to terminate the batch.
