Check the level of you Network Support Firmware. If it is not D0395522_LRC0451, you need to update the firmware, especially if the error line in the communication log is "Unable to write file". From the text file included with the firmware download:
The following SMB-based GW functions will work with Windows 8 and Windows
    Server 2012 with this firmware.

    - Scan to SMB
    - Fax Folder Transmission (SMB only)
    - Fax Forwarding (SMB only)

    Cause:
    MS specification change.
An option setting included in the "SMB_COM_WRITE_ANDX" and "SMB_COM_READ_ANDX"
    commands needs to be changed.

I spoke to Ricoh and they noted that the firmware you note is 8.32 which is around 2 months older than the 8.33 I have; so what I have is the latest. They noted they are having problems with many Win 8 machines and do not have a solution yet. If you have any further info, that will be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Mike

Did you specify that the firmware required is a "Special/Custom" firmware? If they are an authorized Ricoh dealer then their tech needs to login to rfg-esource.ricoh-usa.com, open the Expanded Form, enter D009 as the Product Code and select "Special/Custom as the Firmware/Media Type then click search at the bottom of the page.

Just went over this with him. Is D009 for a MP C2550? Searching with that code comes up with a MP4000.

        thanks again.

          MP C2550 is a D041

Your Network firmware is up to date.

          NIB FIRMWARE D038/D041 FIRMWARE
          VERSION 8.33
          Corrects the following:
 If "CNAME" is specified as the destination folder, ScanTo Folder will abort.
 When NBT is "OFF", Browse list is not shown if touch the Browse Network button on
destination folder of Scan to folder.
 Cannot scan to shared folders in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.
 Cannot scan to shared folders in Mac OS X 10.7 or Mac OS X 10.8.
 This firmware is dependent on the following firmware modules. Please be sure to update
          all of them:
           System/Copy firmware v1.20(D0395521L) or later.

Is your System firmware at the above lvl or higher?

I scanned around 10 times over the last 20 minutes and is working. Hopefully that is it. I will continue scanning to see if it times out.
Missed this earlier...Given that is has scanned I don't think its a firmware issue.

Assuming permissions are set correctly(sharing and security) for the local user account Ruben suggested might be a bad wire/switch/router?

Can you connect the pc directly to the copier with a crossover and test?

Thanks. I did try running a new cat 5e from the P7910 to the Switch and same thing. Since the Ricoh 2550 scans fine to other machines (as well as a 2500 I have) I think it is something with the 7910. One thing I am going to try is to change setting in the network driver under TCP IP4/WINS to Enable Netbios over TCP instead of default. Maybe there is a bug in the driver that causes something with Netbios. I am just grasping for straws here.

The machines get their IP from a Sonicwall NSA2600. All the machines are set to DHCP, but the sonicwall uses the mac address of the machine to always assign the same IP address.

I will give that a try later this week.

              thanks,

              Mike

Sorry about that. I was helping another tech on a 4000 and put down the wrong code. The Special/Custom firmware was a temporary patch to the previous version for Windows 8 and Server 2012.
