    Ricoh Aficio 2022SP

Why would formatting the hard-drive on this Ricoh Aficio 2022SP fail if the hard-drive is good? Thank you for any help given.

Format would fail if the original hdd has been replaced with one too large. Also would fail if the machine doesn't have a hdd to begin with. For this model, the hdd is an accessory.

Need more input - why do you need to format the drive?

A PC is much more tolerant of bad clusters than an MFP. A PC will mark a cluster bad and add it to the redirection table which lows a rather large number of redirection entries. The only sectors on a PC are critical are the boot sector and the sector that contains the primary partition table. On a MFP, the format utility merely erases the existing directory structure and write a new one. It will not tolerate any errors in the directory structure. It will also tolerate a very number of entries in the redirection table.
