Anyone have the service manual. The scanner is stuck in the home position and I can't even get the glass off. This copier is the same as the Xerox 4118X. The scanner lock lever is not the problem. Correction: the scanner is stuck in the return position.

I had a CLX-3160FN/XAA once that melted the top cover right around light source #1. You should have seen me laughing as I warmed the top cover with a pencil torch and re-shaped the plastic from the inside out. It was really ugly and it worked. It was just the heat from the exposure lamp that melted the top cover.
When I told them the price on a scanner assembly, they said they'd trash it when the time came. I heartily agreed. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

The scanner comes off as a unit...unhook ribbon cable, wire harness and ground, take off about 3 screws from rear and a couple from front and lift off scanner assy, turn assy upside down and remove keyboard first, then screws that hold the top together...not bad after you've done it a couple timesComment
