    [Misc] MX2600 / FN10 / RBX3

I'm almost hesitant to post this, for fear that all who read it think I'm crazy......when tech described the problem I thought they were missing something or not describing issue correctly, but I assure you I have seen it with my own eyes.

    MX2600 / FN10 / RBX3
    1. With ledger or legal loaded in any cassette, to include by pass, machine will pull sheet of Ledger in. Paper passes through machine and goes into the staple compiler, as if it were going to be saddle stitched, then goes to jam
    2. There is no image on the jammed page
    3. If ledger and legal loaded machine will pull ledger
    4. If letter and legal loaded machine will pulll legal
    5. If only letter loaded machine runs fine

When this paper is pulled through nothing shows up in Copy or Print queue. Nothing in Spooling queue. This happens with or without network cable plugged in.

I have done firmware. I have done print memory clear. I have done Image data clear.
OK Now it gets good.......When I remove finisher and paper pass unit, machine runs fine, with all three paper sizes loaded.

I can't see how finisher would initiate this phantom job.......any suggestions appreciated.......I'm leaning toward PCU

Copy button, Bypass switch shorting out or jambed in the On position ?

I've seen techs over the years put covers back on and short a Print or Bypass wire to ground, the machine operates continuously.

    Otherwise NFI....

Not Start button, machine runs fine if.......
      1. no Ledger of Legal paper loaded, runs fine with and without finisher installed.
      2. all paper sizes loaded, but finisher and paper pass unit is pulled off

I've noticed when the saddle stitch staples are reloaded after being used up, the machines go thru the process you are describing. a single sheet of letterR, legal or ledger is fed to the stapler and 3 or 4 staples are put in. The sheet is fed out and you should see a message on the display about removing the sheet on tray. I had this issue when the stapler is jammed up. I think you may find if you clear all the staples out and reload it will go thru this process correctly. Be careful, the contacts that detect the cartridge are fragile. Good Luck

This information just arrived in my email from a reliable source:

That's a classic example of the saddle staple unit trying to prime.
You need to fully clear all saddle staple pieces out of the staple unit, including anything bent or broken. This process will run until the finisher successfully primes the staple unit (3 staples in a folded sheet). There is no problem with the engine.

And yes you probably are crazy, just not about this particular thing. =^..^=

          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you and thanks to your "reliable source". That makes perfect sense.

This is storybook example of the trouble you get into listening to another tech's description of problem. He had me so convinced it was some phantom print job

                Thank you

I think we've all done something like this at one time or another. It's very easy to let a customer or another tech lead us down the wrong road. I seem to get the best results when I look for myself first (and form my own opinions), then consult the previous tech or history. In general, my first impression is the closest to what's really happening.

                  Congratulations. =^..^=

As long as you got the machine working in the end....

I have seen this exact thing before. It will pull in the paper as if you just replaced the staples but jam instead of shoot the staples in and push the paper out. I have fixed this by replacing the finisher board.
