    MX-3100 weird issue

I have a MX-3100 that will jam with no paper found at the indicated sensor (FPPD1_S) which is the FED sensor on the FNX9. The client will remove the paper that has made it as far a PPD2, then upon restart, will jam with PPD2_PRI. The client says that it is a copy job, not a print job, but looking at the Job Log, I am not so sure. Possible they are setting a copy job as a print job is being sent?
Anyway, first thing was firmware. Which I freshly downloaded and installed. Then came cleaning and reseating all memory on the MFP. Today I have replaced both the 1gig and 512 MB chips and removed and reseated the EEPROM. I am waiting to see if anything I did today cleared the problem. I know I should do one step at a time but the client is frustrated and just wants it fixed.
Has anyone seen this before? And does anyone have any suggestions?

run the copier with finisher disconnected(don't forget to remove dummy punch and mounting bracket to free up shifter) to determine if finisher is problem . when the jam happens there is no paper in finisher entrance? , is it first page or pages after. have had a rash of fnx9 with fed sensor failure and or sensor flag hanging up. does ppd2-pri come up after paper is removed from ps unit or does copier go to ready first. ppd2-pri is paper is in paper stop but the start signal or data hasn't reached laser.
