Re: MX5111n Printed pages have blue across entire page, fax confirmations and copies

It looks like the printer machine already reached it's copy life(it means consumable parts already needs to replaced such as Optical Drum, Main Charger unit, Cleaner blade and as well as the Developer Powder and even the Primary Transfer Belt). Consumable parts as I mentioned earlier has a rotation value, just like the Optical Drum, when it reached the maintenance value there are instances that it may give you still a good print out but as you print goes by, little by little it will leave some unwanted lines, smudges and also dirt on print outs, those things are because of used consumables they are already grounded especially the optical drum and the main charger unit, as you said you clean it already but suddenly it came back, it is due to the distribution of positive and negative charge on the drum and charger, it was already unbalanced because it is already grounded(remember to put in your mind that our MFP's are working through positive and negative charge). I just want also to remind you that it is normal on our Sharp MFP's, so next time you should monitor your meter count, you can base on that count when to avail new consumables on your printer so that you can also schedule your maintenance on to the printer machine...

Additional suggestion, it is recommended to replaced all the consumable parts at the same time, they all have the same value except for the black(k) but most of the time they are replaced at the same time.. be sure to clean the inner parts of the printer before putting back those consumables(maybe you can use vacuums if it is available) and after replacing it be sure to do on the calibration for you to have a good quality print outs...

Thanks. The yellow was replaced recently by the company we leased it from. We own it now, but it's going to be replaced in the near term so I'm just trying to keep Bessie alive for a few more months. Push come to shove I could probably just limit all printing to B/W.

This model is notorious for pulling developer. have had 4 of these in the last 2 years and fix
seems to be is. Replace process unit in question with new drum and maintenance kit.
Also replace entire DV unit and restart with new developer and put in new waste container.
Do all of them together and you should be good or you will be doing pm in about 40K. Also you may need to
put in an Primary transfer belt assy if streaking at top of paper

Thanks for the additional input. The yellow was replaced about 6 weeks ago along with the waste container. I'm sourcing parts right now, none of the copy places in town deal in Sharp at all... joy joy joy. The drum looks good except for one end which is bare aluminum and has some wear. The rest of it looks flawless and shiny.

Would you mind clarifying what "pulling developer" refers to?

And I apologize for not being hip to the jive. My previous job with copiers were all Xerox, and I was essentially the equivalent of a scribe to a composer. I stripped them down to clean them and put them all back together... I knew where everything went, but didn't spend enough time with the techs to understand how everything worked, although I'm very interested in learning.

It's all just industrial LEGO AFAICT.

"Pulling developer" is when the charge grid starts to arc due to contamination causing developer to be attracted, or "pulled" out of the developer unit. You can either pull out the effected PCU unit to see if the drum is coated. Another sign is if the waste toner is full or if you stick a magnetic screwdriver in it you will pull out developer. This is usually caused by just dumping the waste toner, and not replacing it. TT-121015_2 explains what happens. Usually you will see a "tiger stripe" pattern in the effected color's copies.
