    mx-3140 HDD

I am assisting my church with an issue with the copier. It is an mx-3140 and has had errors E7-03 (which is cable reseat or hard drive errors). Last year I reseated the cable and it lasted a year. I plan on reseating the cable again to see what might happen.

If I do have to replace the HDD - do we just replace a boot the machine? Or is there something that needs to be written to the drive before replacing. Any help in advance would be greatly appreciated. There is no data that needs to be saved.

The drive needs the machine info on it, so unless you're installing an HDD from Sharp directly, you'll need to push an HDD clone from a working HDD on to it. I have a couple other machines, but I do NOT have the 3140 series unfortunately. I even tried a 5071 clone one time, but it didn't work completely. I wish it were super simple, but it's not. Also, highly advise against trying to clone the HDD that's bad, for obvious reasons. More than likely will do more harm than good.

Get a 320gig drive, (2.5 inch, ssd will do also). Make sure its blank(unformated). replace the drive and boot. Wait until copier finish formating, (after green light stops blinking) and press the start button. The new drive needs only to be as large or more than the old one.Replaced one yesterday on a mx3640 and last week mxm365n.

Thank you to all answers. The drive was replaced on Friday evening with the same size. It booted right up and was working fine. They turned it off for the weekend. Upon booting this morning - they received the same e7-03 error.

        Any ideas?

        Thank you in advance.

Do you know what the firmware version is? There were a few updates back in the day to fix erroneous E7-03 errors.

If you have replaced the HDD, you may have a faulty HDD cable (sometimes they can crack).

Or, the worst cause can be a faulty MFPC PWB.

Is the device “normal” or is a DSK kit installed?
22-6 print out and check as it is different firmware.
              Firmware version 06.00.A2.I0
              Firmware version 06.00.Ad.f0 DSK

Or look at 22-10, since you can't print.

You will also need to install watermark data if you are using a new hdd.
