MX-M3571 not answering faxes. Old MX-M363N did.

    This is a FYI tip.

Replaced a MX-M363N with a MX-M3571 and the new machine would not answer incoming faxes. We always test faxing inhouse before delivery. We thought the clone from the old copier had corrupted the new copier somehow so we purged it and started over. Replaced the fax module and phone cord with same result. Took an old FO fax which answered and receiveed faxes. Had a tech take a fax similator and hook between the old FO and new copier and the copier received test faxes.

When our IT tech showed me a video of what the M3571 did when a fax arrived the ring was cutting in and out. I called the fax# and there would be two normal sounding rings, a click and one ring that sounded like and old style phone. I told him there was a TAD somewhere but both techs said the line comes out of the wall and straight into the copier. I told them it was somewhere else. This was a bank and they told us some of their branches used the fax line for the seccurity system. Not in this bank though.

This is what it turn out to be (from their IT person): "We have a company called Music On Hold that supplies messages for customers when we place a call on hold. They are using the fax line to change the message periodically. When I bypass the Music On Hold box the fax works fine."
