Sharp MX3501N - Border Around Images - Help!

My office just received our new Sharp MX3501N MFP yesterday. Our "letterhead" consists of our jpeg image inserted into the header of a Microsoft Word document. When we print our letters on any other printer, the logo prints fine. However, when I print the same letter to the Sharp 3501, a thin border appears around the image. I have checked everything I could think of from the image properties themselves to all the printer settings of the Sharp.

Can anyone please provide insight into this matter?? Thank you very much!

A border around in inserted JPEG is really common (especially on color laser printers/copiers).

First thing you should do is change the print settings to 4bit, instead of 1bit. This is done in the color tab of the driver, then select advanced color.

If that doesn't fix the issue, you will need to change the standard image type mode to custom mode (also in the color tab of the driver). Then change the Neutral Grey and Screening modes. You will get a certain configuration that will work better than the standard PCL driver setting.

If that doesnt fix the issue, try obtaining a higher resolution image of the JPEG and insert that. The problem is, the machine simply prints what it receives. The data being sent to the printer has that thin border in there.... even if it doesnt show up on other printers. If you zoom in on the document, or change the brightness/contrast of your monitor, you will see the thin line around the JPEG on the document. Changing those certain settings within the print driver should fix this.

I see this all the time. Its not the machine itself causing this. Its the document and how the driver processes it. You will be able to get a certain driver configuration that will work better with this document.... its just trial and error. Then setup your new defaults when happy its working better.

The MX3500/4500 series are fantastic machines, that you will enjoy using. The only issues you will have with them is you can only use Heavy media from the bypass tray, and its only 600dpi color, which can affect some color documents. Otherwise, its a great box.

Another thing I just thought of Carrie, is get your IT guys to install a different driver... eg, if you are only using the PCL6 driver, have the PCL5 driver installed as well (there is no harm having these installed together on your computers). The PCL5/PCL6 driver will process the document differently and give a different output. I have seen many occasions where the 2 driver versions give a completely different color output for the same document, printed at the same time.

Do you have Postscript installed on your machine? If so, you should have the PS version of the driver listed in your printer window. Either changing the settings listed above or using a different driver version, will help your issue.

If you get it sorted out, please advise what the outcome was. Thanks alot.
