    Sharp SF2214 pumping toner...

    I do all types of electronics, along with the occasional copier. I haven't seen this particular problem in the past.

    I've got the paper service manual for this machine but it doesn't cover any problems that have not been a result of an internal shutdown error code like L1,L2,U1,LB etc...

    The trouble with this copier is as soon as you turn it on the main motor starts running. Normally it stops almost immediately and as soon as the fuser gets to temperature, the ready light comes on. This one continues to run non-stop. The toner dispensing motor runs too. It is pumping toner in one end and it is coming out the waste sump as fast as it's going in. If it were left on it would eventually empty the toner container.

    Normally when a copier runs on like this, the trouble is the toner dispensing motor is bad, or a gear is broken in the dispensing system, or the auger is not turning and it is starved for ink. This one is definately getting toner. It is spilling everywhere inside the copier making a mess.

    After the copier has been off for an extended period, it will actually come on, go to standby and make a few copies. The copies have a lot of background so I imagine the optics are dirty and the coronas will need cleaning/replacing. Before it wouldn't come on I read the exposure setting and it was at 99. The manual indicates this machine will automatically increase this setting over time to compensate for dirty optics and ageing drum.

    This machine is also wrinkling the pages as they come out. Don't want to dig into the other problems unless I get the run on and toner feed solved. May even be time for the customer to put this copier out to pasture...

    Any ideas on this problem?

      More than likely the drum is no good. You will need to replace the drum and blade, you might be able to bleed off the excess toner in the dv unit but might be better to just replace. Also give the machine a good cleaning. Good luck.

          Put it out to pasture (or just dig a really deep hole)

          The SF-2214 was a piece of crap when it was new, then it got older and worn out.

          Parts are not available from Sharp anymore (thank goodness!!!) (aftermarket only).

          Problem #1) the developer is dead. Since it cannot correctly read the developer density it pours in the toner as fast as it can. #1 Replace developer (SF-234ND). Stir developer in simulation 25-2.

          Problem #2) Lower roller or lower roller bearings or upper roller bushing problem. May need a whole fuser rebuild.

          Better yet don't spend the money on this copier. Find a fairly decent copier to fix.
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              must be a zero cross error....get a new system
              or maybe the frame is bent.... get a new system
              or maybe electricity works different now since the dinosaur came out, and that old can't handle it...get a new system
              maybe Sharp no longer supports it and it is not econimically wise to continue wasting time and money trying to repair a 2214....get a new system

                      Toner sensor possibly is bad or developer worn out.

                      If sensor is bad, toner will continue to add. Also check developer, it could be worn out, this would allow machine to run trying to satisfy the toner sensor demand for toner. Being worn out, the toner level would never reach the correct level. Check to see if developer is falling out of dv unit, if it is, replace and calibrate. If developer has been changed recently, I would try to re-calibrate anyway. If it does not calibrate, should be the toner sensor.

                          Just a note SF234nd is not the correct developer for this machine. It is SF214ND. 234 went in the later models that did not have the replenshing DV. Most likely the problem is the toner sensor.

                                  just change the drum. sf-214dm. ORIGINAL DRUM discontinued long time ago. u can try luck in KATUN

                                      Replace drum, blade, and dv... Clean grid, sawtooth, and rest of machine... Problem should go away, I used to have alot of these out in the field, glad they are all gone now
