Yes, very common for someone to place books or other originals on the right sensor and then have that message pop up. Make sure that sensor works as well using your SIMs.

On most of my machines I increased the counterweight on the original length sensor flag. The original counterweight is a M4 x 6 plastic screw. I would back out that screw about half way, then install an additional M4 x 6 screw from the other side (twice the counterweight).

Another way you can experience the same symptoms is if the enduser stacks letter sized originals to be scanned on the end of the original tray, then starts scanning sets from the top of the stack. The pile of originals trips the length sensor so that all originals are detected as 11 x17.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
