fusers are getting to hot. using oem rollers and new thermistors they still get to hot. not all but most of our machines does this. is there a trick we are missing? turning heat down to 165 doesn't help. it will still fuse toner at that low on 90 lb index. I believe if we could solve this problem that it would cut down on pod jams. schools are where we hqve most problems as they run long runs a lot the mxm seem to be doing better but we had some arm450 with new thermistors work well and others that won't. appreciate any info or ideas

Re: arm450/455/MXM450 fuser questions
ARM450's have poor ventilation over the fuser. I have had success by removing the external cover that is over fuser (upper left) In a grid pattern use a drill and create a vent. This allows heat from fuser to more efficiently dissipate. I usually do a 5x5 grid.
Also update the firmware, as the latest version includes a fix for longer fan operation in the delivery unit, and check the fan is actually rotating fast. When those fans get old, they tend not to rotate at full speed, causing excessive heat buildup.Last edited by mansart; 08-25-2011, 03:00 AM. -
Re: arm450/455/MXM450 fuser questions
The Tiger and Jupiter series have both experienced worn out delivery/turnover fans, and left door fans. Very common. Maybe one of your fans isn't turning any more. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

They're not hot enough that they are popping the thermostat. That's the main concern.Comment

Re: arm450/455/MXM450 fuser questions
You could try increasing your lead edge. Being in a school and they like to copy books they probably have lots of shadowing around the edge. I think you will want to play with 50-1 opt 5 (Lead edge) opt 7 (DENA void)
Those machines were a pain in the ass to quote to schools, they didn't have the paper capacity and lost the bypass when you put the big finisher on. How many DF jams do you have on average between PM calls? I have a bunch of these machines in lawyers offices and i have around 200 jams on average. I can load that DF up and it never jams but they manage to do it.Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

Re: arm450/455/MXM450 fuser questions
Thanks for the replies. Lawrence, I believe most of the doc jam are user caused as we have seen this same thing. rebuild doc with new clutches and rollers and sep pad and still get lots of jamming between calls. we can stand there and operate it over anover with no jams, then we clean rollers again and sometime we can instruct operator. I believe it is because there is tension on the paper before it hits stops. can't update firmware as these are imagistics machines but I don't believe fan runing longer would help that much. the fans appear to be working well as that was one of thefirst things we though of. new fans might help a little and I might try a few if they not to high. putting a few vents might be a idea. the jam complaints always come when long runs are being made. and as I said before some machine run find even on long runs you can still remove the fuser without letting it cool down. so what gives? I believe it is the thermistors being poor quality. tolerance are probably not real close. any more ideas welcome. would be a great little machine if not for this issue. also I would like to use cheaper roller in fuser. if anyone knows of any after market ones that work well please inform usComment
