Machine is an office in hospital doing about 2k per month between faxes and copies. The machine was set up Sept 2. It was moved to adjoining office a month ago and on Jan 7 machine had an E1-00 error code. Fax board was blown. I replace board with new one and okay for now. While waiting for board i gave customer a Sharp AL-1661CS as a loaner. The next day customer called and said they could receive but not send and machine would not respond to numbers attempted to be entered. They said they would wait until Fo2080 was returned as they did not send much but primarily received.
When I returned Fo-2080 I noticed that the Al-1661cs was plugged into a splitter that plugged into wall jack. A phone from anothe dest was plugged into other side of splitter. The phone unit has 3 lines that jump when one is busy. This did not seem like an appropriate hookup and I explained my concern to one of the staff and said I thought they should have a dedicated line for faxing. I was told other machines they had were hooked up same way without a problem. I had 2 machines plugged into that splitter and a problem on each machine so I am wary.
When I returned to my office with the loaner I immediately plugged it in and hooked up the fax. I got a dial tone and the machine responded to numbers entered. I did not get dial tone at hospital and of course you could not enter numbers. For some reason I guess the FO2080 works in that environment but I am afraid that maybe that type of hookup may have been responsible for the fax board blowing.
I know this is a long story but I wanted you to have all the facts so you could make a comment of what you think of this situation. Your response is very much appreciated as I am hardly an expert no fax connections. I just try to fix the machines. Frank/ActionPhotocopy
