    MXM700U USB PRINTING

    Hi All
One of my customers has a MXM700U with no NBX1 fitted, he now wants to use it to print, But Sharp UK no longer stock the NBX1.
It will print a test page via USB no problem at all, but if I try to print a 50 page PDF it takes ages to spool and then only prints the first 2 pages before printing an error page saying PCL XL ERROR ILLEGAL DATA LENGTH,
It has me a bit puzzled, I have tried using the PCL6 driver and also the SPLC2 driver I think, but both have the same effect, it will print single pages all day long but anything larger it does not want to play.
I have tried putting extra memory in it to no avail. Is this USB port not an actual print interface.
Any info would be grately appreciated.

Not sure if it'll help, but have you tried the GDI driver?

I looked on Sharpusa.com and didn't see a GDI driver for the MXM700... So I didn't answer this post. Seems there's only PCL6, PPD, PS and PCFAX. Not sure if there's different options on their UK support site, but definitely not a GDI driver for either NA site, or Sharpnet or SSAP...

On that note however... What program are you using to attempt to print your PDFs? Try printing them as images in the print settings of your PDF program, it may help alleviate some of the data stress.

Ordinarily you'd be right on the money, but it seems that for this series and potentially anything newer there are no longer GDI drivers. Not that I've looked extensively hard... Who doesn't have network support nowadays for PCL?

Simplest solution might be to upgrade the customer to a newer model with network support.

You can experiment with some of the settings in the Advanced tab of the Printer Properties to see if you can get it to print properly. If you are spooling, make sure that "Start printing immediately" is selected, as this may reduce the amount of data that must be stored on the mfp and should reduce the length of time before it starts printing. If that doesn't work, try the "Print directly to the printer" option.

Not sure if either one will solve your problem, but it's easy to try them.

I can't be positively sure, but machines of this era did not support printing to parallel or USB, even if it had sockets for such. Those sockets were only for loading firmware.

The last machine that I know of that could print via parallel or USB, with an external print server was an AR-M350U/450U.
Without the MX-NBX1 you're probably out of luck. Have you tried contacting an off-lease wholesaler? Sometimes they'll break up an inoperable or unsaleable machine. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

                  Hi all
thanks for all your sugestions, i have already tried messing with the print spooler setting with no luck, as i say i have tried driver for different machines, i do vaguely remeber somthing about the usb port being only for updates, but what is baffling me is why would it print a windows test page? you can even activate /deactivate the usb port under the settings, oh and i was tring to print via acrobat reader 10.

It looks like the PCL drivers may be the only ones you can use, unless you have the PS3 expansion and can use the PS driver. Make sure it's not attempting to spool on the copier as it has no HDD, so larger print jobs will be unable to spool and could be the result of your error. Another option would be to check "Print as image" in the advanced section of the printer menu in Adobe, and try again without spooling enabled (I believe the option is called direct print).
