Sharp MX-M550N optimization of hard drive

I'm still kind of new to servicing Sharps, just had a question for those more experienced. I have a MX-M550N that's been hanging up a few times on the "clearing data" message and I was poking around in the admin menu and saw an option for "Optimization of Hard Drive."

Does anyone know exactly what this function does? Does it delete any stored data? I can't find any mention of it in either the operation manual or the service manual. Thanks in advance.

clearing data msg comes when data security is installed.you can confirm it by sim 22-10 it will show frxx on in security section. try changing sim 55-3 sw1 bit 5 to 1 might make it faster. optimizing hdd is like a quick defrag of hdd wont delete anything. back up and clearing the job log in the same screen as optimizing hdd will make mfd faster.
