es 556 intermittent black lead edge.

I've got an es 556 that intermittently gives a black lead edge along with a squished copy, only on the first of a multi-copy run. all others on that same run look ok. the black edge can vary from 1 inch to 4 inches and then the entire copy is shrunk in one direction. this is not a registration problem. can any one help? thanks, jim it does it on letter and letter-r.

A sample would help a lot. It sounds as though you have some sort of drum drive problem, if the image size varies in the feed direction.

Does it do it through the DF and OC (off contact glass)? On prints or internal reports? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

it's fived----- black kat you we're real close. why it was intermittent i'll never know. the drum drive mech. is a motor and pulley ass'y and the pulley has a clamp screw holding the shaft tight and the screw was barely loose. the drum would sometimes stall out on start up and then rotate properly.
