    estudio 4540c- replace black cartridge

My customer replaced the Black toner, and two days later , the install black toner message returned. I can't remember if the toner sensor is in the dev unit on this model. Or should I be looking in a different spot. Machine is locked up and They don't want to put any more toner in it. I don't believe the cartridge is the issue, they made a few copies before this message popped.
    Thanks

I'm not sure why, but overloaded electrical circuits will cause the EEPROM chip on the toner cartridge to blow. You can take a chip from another new cartridge, it doesn't matter what color, but you still end up with an unusable cartridge of one color or the other. And if the enduser continues to run ... say a 4540C and a 755 on the same circuit, the chip will last only seconds until it blows again.

Most frequently it's magenta, but less so cyan. Good luck getting the electrical sorted out, Even when you have proof, and demonstrate the problem, the enduser still often will not take the appropriate steps. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That is a strange one!! I do have to say tho.... Customer has this machine plugged into a Belkin Power Strip!
Customer just looked at me funny when I mentioned that it is not good for any machine!

Another cause may be the plastic cover which surrounds the toner cartridges. Toshiba released a mod kit (thick mylar) that wraps around the latch section for each toner cartridge. The problem is that the latches get weak with time (so usually starts with the black because it's changed the most) and don't provide enough positive pressure to the cartridge. As the toner motor turns the cartridge slips away from the contacts at the rear and generates the "Add toner" message. Sometimes that slipping damages the EEPROM and other times it doesn't. I had 4 different machines with this issue and once I put that mod on the problem never returned.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

It's a toner sensor in back of machine. Replaced that and check all springs which connected to CRUM chip on toner, run ATC then you should be fine.
