    e-Studio 457, jam in fuser...

    Hey guys,
So, we went out to this machine and put a new Exit Sensor in it, didn't work. Then swapped the small harness that goes from the sensor to the connector on rear of the fuser... same thing. We ended up having to swap the fuser out but I'd like to get it running... just shows a permanent jam. Could there be a problem with the main fuser connector in some way...?? Weird...

    Jam code? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the reply Black Cat, and I can get that code for you. However it is definitely the fuser sensor which there is only one of them in that is causing it... that's why replacing the fuser fixed the problem I think??

Re: e-Studio 457, jam in fuser...

So the replacement fuser resolved the issue... could be:

        wrong sensor
Plastic frame closure busted out so there is no fuser pressure
inlet guide out of position or gone
        Heat roller ring gear broken
        Damaged modular fuser connector
maybe it's just the wrong fuser that somebody else installed? All the Loire, LoireX, and Loire2X fusers look similar, but there are differences electrically.

All my resources are organized by jam code. Without a jam code I have to rely on my diminishing memory.

Re: e-Studio 457, jam in fuser...

OK, the jam code the machine is showing is E030, paper remaining the transport area. As stated however, replacing the Fuser solved the problem out in the field. This is the same exact issue that the customer's machine in the field had, and the machine had been out there working for several years without issue. We took the fuser from THIS machine out to the customer and it fixed the issue, so now I'm trying to troubleshoot this fuser to find out what went wrong with it. Again, new Sensor and new harness that goes to the sensor have been replaced. Whatever else that can be added would be great...

            wrong sensor
Put TWO new, OEM sensors in the unit, same thing. Yes, they were the correct ones for this machine (although, I think they'd be all the same in every fuser of this series machine?)
Plastic frame closure busted out so there is no fuser pressure
inlet guide out of position or gone
            Heat roller ring gear broken
All three of the above could not be possible, because the jam shows on POWER ON and no motors/gears are trying to turn at that point, only a jam code. No paper movement.
            Damaged modular fuser connector
I guess this is possible, but in all these hundreds of frames, have you ever seen one damaged/not making connection? I haven't, that's why I ask...

Already answered this question in another post, but both fusers in question were from working e-Studio 457s

Ok. You're right. It's none of those things. So don't try anything.

Re: e-Studio 457, jam in fuser...

Power on jam from my experience always ended with some bad sensor. I replaced a few exit sensors on older models. I'm really puzzled that your problem isn't sensor/harness.

Just trying to use logic dude.. sorry if you're offended! The only plausible option left is the main connector on the fuser. Or a bad board.

Me too, but I'm going to try everything else before giving up.
DEFINITELY why I have been moving away from Toshiba for years now... what a piece of crap! (and I've been working on them over 30 years...)

Just following up on this, but it ended up being bad pins on the modular connector on the fuser.. hard to tell at first glance until I looked closely at all the pins, and some of them were bent/smashed. Ordered a new connector and that did the trick!

Didn't think I was being grumpy, and here's the proof:

                            Damaged modular fuser connector

Look guys, I wasn't trying to bypass the connector as being the issue, only wanted to know your experience with that issue? It took me over a month to go back to the machine (one man show, you know?) so things could have been dropped in the interim. I'm human, as are you. I could have just as well not posted what I did to fix the problem, especially if it was going to result in snarky, useless comments that help no one.
