    3518A APS locking up?

    Hi guys,

I have 2 of these machines that are doing the same thing. When the machines were new, the customers would feed originals normally and the copier would select the paper and copy...like they're supposed to. Lately however, it's like the copier is trying to figure out what to do and it just freezes. The yellow interrupt key just blinks and the copy is never made. I've tried making all of the adjustments for paper size and type. Have also tried turning off aps. It doesn't help. I've had to go in and delete jobs under the "job status." Sometimes it wants paper put in the bypass. Any ideas? Thanks

Do the paper trays, in the LCD panel, display the proper paper size?

It is not uncommon for the trays to move out a few clicks and the copier cannot auto determine the paper size in the paper trays.

What type of feeder is it? If the original size sensors are not working properly, you will get a size mismatch.

Check the ADF original width sensor under the original feed tray. Sensor SD3 / SD4.

I'll double check. Thanks Service Guy.

I'll check, but having 2 new machines with the same sensors going bad seems like a slim chance. Thanks

Very common on this series of machines. Most often it comes down to slamming the tray.
"Load paper LT Plain to bypass." Yield sign for tray #1 paper size.

              1) When the paper tray is slammed with the tray full, it can jump the rear guide back 3 or 4mm, causing the tray to read "???" paper size. Re-position the tray guides and close the tray gently.
              2) When the paper tray is slammed (full or not), it causes the size switches to bounce, reading false values. Simply closing the tray gently is the answer.
              3) Paper is behind the tray, preventing the lift drive to engage. Paper doesn't lift, and eventually displays as empty.

This applies to Reuss, Weisshorn 2H (any recent machines that can self detect paper size in the paper trays).
              =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

... the new e3528A features soft closing paper trays 1& 2 that helps to minimize the guides shifting.

Good thing all the manufacturers are in the same boat.
... I do not have an ETA on the new product line called Office Collection 3 (OC3). Earliest delivery is August. Expect a 5% price increase.

In UK we're expecting first delivery in July of 3525 with others rolling out August September

One other thing to check. Pull the cover off the system board, remove the ram module, CLEAN out all the dust/debris
and when you power it back up, hold down the energy saver button.
On some machines, I've had some REALLY STRANGE problems corrected by doing that. Not sure if it is dust getting
into the memory slot or tin whiskers growing on the board.
On some of the larger 5540-6550 style machines, swaping the memory modules would even cause the machine to
change the problem due to a bad memory board.

Well, I tried all of the suggestions. Nothing helped, but I thank you all. What did help was changing the "paper size settings - all drawers to prohibit."

                          Again, thank you everyone.

PS I do have another problem with one of the feeders. It keeps dog earing originals. I'll start another thread for this.
