    4508 E-580

Passing this along from one of my field techs.

Only jams when duplexing obviously, E580. Ran the input/output for the sensor, checked
ok. The code says the TRAIL edge isn't clearing the sensor, but the paper had made it to
the alignment roller. Tried different size paper, different trays, checked the exit assembly
for the gunk on the bushings. Had another ADU assembly at our warehouse, swapped it
out and it worked. When he laid it down, he heard a noise. Come to find out the fan
above the sensor (Ribon pg 34 # 25) had popped out of its holder and the blades were
touching the sensor enough that when the paper passed through, the sensor arm would
stick on the blade. When you opened & closed the door, it was enough movement to reset
    the sensor.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

My conclusion was that my customer was slamming the right door excessively hard. I was able to re-install the fan blades and the fan functioned properly, then I added a coathanger "guard" to prevent the blades from falling completely off. I've never had much luck changing customer behaviors. =^..^=

I got in trouble once about a dozen years ago from a customer who was slamming the door on a 5540. The next time I got a call, I waited until 4pm to respond
because I knew what they had done.
Customer asked me why it took so long I pretty much said well, you aren't operating the machine as i instructed you to prevent this from happening, so i put you
at the bottom of the list and did others first.
They called in to complain...boss asked what I did, told him, just laughed and said don't do that again.
But, it worked! They finally stopped slamming the door. (jams were because their cheap paper curled too much)

LOL!! Sounds like something I'd do.

You could break the plastic features where the 2nd transfer roller fits to the primary transfer belt. I've replaced a lot of those.
The hardest ones to diagnose were just fractured, but the crack only opened when the door is closed. =^..^=

Hey, thought you might want a tweaked photo of that. I pulled a bit more detail out of the
shadows & killed down the noise a bit, then rotated it so when one of my techs looked at it,
his head didn't have to tilt sideways LOL.

                Heh...
Rusty with 5540 you don't mention analogue ones...learned their soft spots being constantly week or two at the same customer.
A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

Oh the stories...I could write a book after 43+ years in this mess.

My first one was a b&w sharp SF-810 in Marshall Mo. I had been in this about a week, ya know back in the day it was OJT. Riding with
a guy. "lines" all over the copies. Looked inside and the drum looked like a chicken had scratched it. This was in a small rural church
with a 156 year old "church lady about 5' tall.
We asked her if she had a paper jam and she said yes. I asked what she used to get it out.
She opened a drawer and pulled out one of those huge old hickory butcher knives and wielded it like a samurai warrior!
