    toshiba 5570dp CA5

    I normally work on Ricohs, and I know this is a laser power setting error, but am not too familiar with what may cause that on a toshiba. Old drum maybe, dirty optics?
    Don't take that toner with me!

    Well it's an old first generation digital, I'd say the laser is probably shot.
    I will not give you service manuals or firmware.

      It's been awhile but you might be able to resolve this rather simply.

      Turn on machine while holding 0 and 8 for a few seconds. enter 449 and press print. press 1 and enter. turn off and on again.

      This code changes laser checking and allows the laser to work when it normally would not. Usually, copy quality will be normal and no difference would be noted.

      Used to leave them that way for the rest of their life.

      If that doesn't help, then your laser is probably kaput.

        I agree with audioimaging, but then again the laser could be shot.
        I used to change that setting and leave it like that as well.
        But also it seemed that after some time ( probably 3+ months ), that setting would return to its' original setting, so it may be a good idea to double check that setting on every service call. Might prevent an unnecessary service call.
        * The only reason I did'nt replace the laser was the copiers were rentals and changing that setting was sufficient enough to keep the machine running
