    Toshiba e-Studio 550 Light Copies

    Hello All,

We have a Toshiba e-Studio 550 that continually produces light, washed out copies. We have replaced the Drum, Developer,Transport Belt, and the wiring harness under the transport belt. One technician noticed that in the service mode making copies everthing looked fine, once he exited the service mode the copies went back to being washed out. We have performed the ICQ Adjustments and the Developer Concentration adjustments also. The copies are particularly washed out on the machine rear side.

We have noticed this image defect on all Toshiba e-Studio 810's and 550's that we have in the field. We only have five of these units in the field. We have also viewed the technical information from SharpNet on the AR-810, which is the same machine.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    SPC board assembly?

We had a machine (Sharp) with the same type of problem although it was displaying 'service recommended for SPC' drum surface potential control board/sensor error. Replacing that assembly removed the code and gave us back good density. Around $150.00 for part through LA-Tech. Don't know if it's worth the gamble to try it but you could swap the assembly from another machine if available.

      Developer unit-

The Dev Unit has been the only problem on this machine-There is an Auger that gets clogged-remember that the toner travels from the front to the back of the unit- That is why the rear side is getting washed out-Make sure you clean the auger and move the dev unit by hand so you know there is no binding- also the drum spacers could be making the drum rub up on the Mag roller- How many copies are on this unit? check also the frame gear that drives the Dev unit- As for the test copies in service mode-are you doing multiples in that mode or just a copy at a time.Or it just might be that you did not reset the drum counter.......

        e-Studio 810 Copy Quality Issues

Thank you to you both for the reply! I will try looking at the items mentioned. As you might expect, all of these machine carry a very high copy count, from 2 to 3.8 million copies. These are all in a high school setting. The drum spacers and frame gear I have not checked but will do so.

        Again many thanks!

          Toshiba E550

Both Sharp and Toshiba have issued service bulletins regarding the improvement of image quality control and image density. Depending on how old the machines are you may need to replace the transfer belt drive roller (in Toshiba's case if the copier is prior to march 2004) You will also need to upgrade the firmware to enable extra service codes so you can do some adjusting to get better density. Hope that helps. Cheers
