Format the hdd in 08 mode then create a partition in 3&c mode.then try the firmware update

Ok, you stepped one or two levels up from what i know about formatting drives. how would i format in 08 mode then create a partition in 3&c? I have partitioned drives before, but usually with some type of utility, such as partition magic, and its been a few years since that, but i definitely don't remember anything about 08 or 3&c???

also, is 160GB size too large? if so, could i format it, set a partition for say 80GB, then delete the other partition, and let the copier read it as a smaller drive? would this be feasable, or is this not an issue at all?

also, on FAT, FAT32 or NTFS file structure, does it matter?

switch m\c on with08 held down then press 690 then print enter 2 then print key, this will format the hard drive.power m\c off then switch on with 3&c held down select option 3 (i think)& this will create the partion.then you can retry the firmware

thanks ss12. when i turn machine on, hold down 0 & 8 during boot, it still goes to a screen the screen that says "Can Not Find HDD Data". On the jumpers on the drive, I have tried setting it to both Master and Cable Select. Is there a preference to which one here?

              Right info wrong order.

Clear & 3 turn on then option 3 turn off
0&8 turn on 690 start 2 start turn off when it says reboot (2-3 minutes)
then 4&9 with the thumb drive in the port on back of machine.
then 0&8 947 start then 690 start 2 start turn off then back on.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

                Mr Spock,

                Thanks however.....

holding "Clear & 3" when i turn it on still produces the "Can not find HDD data" message. Im still stuck there.....

the main difference i see when holding the "0 & 3" combo is it does "beep" when i boot, and the button that says "Extension" lights up green.... It does not turn green if i do not hold any buttons when i turn it on, nor does the Extension button light up, but both button combinations, as well as no button at all lead to the "Can not find HDD data" message.

Any other ideas or button combos to press?

Again, could this have anything at all to do with the 160GB drive? Is there a max limit on this that anyone knows of?

Are you using the "clear" button or the "0" button with the 3 button. The "clear" button is the one to use. Also check the jumpers on the hard drive. I use 120 and 160gig for replacements because the 60 and 80 are no longer available.

ok, dont give up on me!!! i got somewhere different now...

while holding the "clear" and "3" i got

                      "Firmware Version Up Mode
Select Number (1-3) and Press Start Key
                      1. Clear NvRam flags.
                      2. Format Loader Partition.
                      3. All Partition Delete and Create Loader Partition."

per your instructions above, I selected option 3. after about a second it said "initialize completed" and i turn off. then i hold "0 & 8" and turn back on and i am still getting "can not find hdd data" message.

i set the jumper to Master on the HDD instead of Cable Select.

anything else i can try? can i load these files on the HDD manually somehow, by slaving the drive off my pc or anythign?

Now, since it still has the error, do the firmware update. then the 08-947 and 08-690-2-start.

does anyone know what data or software i need to load on the hdd or where i can get it?
The first thing i do after i have a new copier model in my warehouse,is removing hdd and creating an image in my server. This serves me to replace defected hdd on this machines.
It means if you dont have the firmware for this machines, find an E-Studio 352 and make a clone of its HDD on a new one, wich you can put it to your machine.
Dont forget to put other E-Studio 352's HDD back.

The files are on the USB memory stick as follows:

/202_282 (directory with all the files)
mentusb0 (file copied and pasted to root of usb stick from /202_282 directory)

This one. Insert the thumb drive then hold 4 & 9 down while powering on. Wait 3-5 minutes. Select everything then hit start button and wait about 15 minutes.

                                mr spock,

thanks but still getting the error. it says "Error loadModule". At first on boot it says "Download USB Maintenace Module" then after a second it gives the error message. Im completely stumped.

                                1) i have the files in the directory of the 2GB usb key just as stated, formatted to FAT.
                                2) i have a 160gb hd (jumper set to master)

any other ideas? its gotta be something simple, just dont know what???
