    e281 faded on the edge

i have an e 281 and the copies are faded on the side closest to the panel, i can run the density all the way up and slightly get the image to appear. this is in black very bad, color slightly? i have done light restricting tests, no better, i have also changed the trans/drum unit with a know good working unit, no difference,i have cleaned all the mirrors and optics, changed the optics board...
    any suggestions?

You obviously havent seen the one before it, the 3511 and 4511. the transfer belt etc didnt just slide out the front like the 281c, you had to remove the exit tray and take it out the top, which often ment removing the bridge unit and finisher...

on the 281c series over half the time light copies are laser slit glass covered in toner, a fair few are low on black dev, and the occasional black dev drive gears

with the drum and trans unit and k dev out of the machine (you will need to remove the led array ass 2 screws and the unit will rock to the left leving you just enough space to get you hand and cloth in, its located to the right of where the k dev sits, also under the k toner led array,

another way is to remove the lazer, 2 connectors on the logic board, remove the left hand side panel (colour dev unit side) remove the black tray under the colour devs (2 screws) then 1 shouldered screw and the lazer will slide out,

                  good luck
