ES166 Registration way out and Jamming

    Hi Team.

Trained Ricoh tech but we have just picked up a Toshiba dealership. No idea what could be causing this issue. Toshi training guy said the machine was too old to bother with, of course he does not have to tell the client that!

Customer has given me some samples where the image begins half way across the page, then is jammed before reaching the fuser. The paper is uncrinkled so I am thinking a timing jam or sensor of some sort.
We have never been able to reproduce the issue on sight - We always arrive and walk away from a machine that makes as many great copies as you would like.

We replaced the registration roller clutch this morning, thinking it might be intermittently not engaging. Customer called back to say they are still having issues.

    Any ideas?

I have seen the rubber sleeve of the cassette feed rollers (the half moon shape) become rolled off of the roller itself once. Machine would run a few sheets perfectly then every once in a while would have rego jams. Might be worth a check.
Seems to be caused from the customer trying to open the cassette while half a sheet is still jammed under the rollers.

There are spring clutches/gears (which ever you guys call them) which drive the half moon rollers on which feed the paper. If some one has moved the half moon rollers it can damage the lip on the spring clutch. This is used to hold the half moon rollers in the home position until paper is ready to be fed. It uses a little solenoid which lets the spring clutch move allowing the half moon rollers to rotate. They should only rotate once each time a sheet of paper is fed (A4 and A3).
Also worth checking that it is not multi feeding due to the metal sep claws on the cassette (had customer hand me 1 sheet with most of the image, forgetting to mention the other one was thrown away). These are available in kits as it can be a pain to adjust them, easier to replace them. The lift plate for the paper can become deformed sometimes to.
Another is to check to make sure the springs on the trans/sep unit are sitting on the pips in the correct position. These can move out of position and become deformed. I usually super glue them into position.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

It sounds like a registration clutch problem. Had exactly the same issue and changing the clutch worked for me. However, i cleaned the entire paper path up until the fuser just to be sure. That includes the paper pick-up clutch michaelc is talking about. Try making copies with the back cover off and watch how the clutches/gears work.

Thanks for the help guys. Sales has used this as an opportunity to upgrade the client to a more reliable machine so a bittersweet victory I guess.
